Postgraduate Summer School with New York University: 'The Global City and Media Ethnography'


Venue: Photography and Digital Imaging Studio, DIT, Temple Bar.
Date:  June 18 - July 5, 2007.

The Centre for Transcultural Research and Media Practice (CTMP), in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Communication, Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development, New York University, USA, offers a three-week annual programme in practice-led media research.

Directors: Dr Aine O’Brien, Co-director of CTMP; Associate Professor, Allen Feldman, NYU.

I.  Program Mission and Description:

The curriculum is aimed at postgraduate students from diverse disciplines who want to explore creative media practice as a research methodology. The summer school brings together a transnational profile of scholars/practitioners/artists, who are expert in media ethnography, visual culture, performance theory, digital imaging technologies and network environments on the linked topics of transculturalism, globalization, diasporic identities and human rights.

II.  Structure, Components, Outcomes:

Through theory-building seminars, project development clinics, multimedia instruction and one-to-one supervision, students are enabled in the design and development of practice-based research at the postgraduate level, acquiring skills across a variety of digital media platforms.
