New appointment in Visual Cultural Studies

CTMP welcomes the appointment of Dr Rashmi Sawhney as a Lecturer in Visual Cultural Studies (see Staff). Her research interests are in the areas of visual culture, South Asian studies, postcolonial studies, and gender studies; a large part of her research has dealt with issues related to representations of history, memory, narrative, diaspora cultures and cultures of visuality. Her work has been published in international reviewed journals such as Film Studies, LITCRIT, and Communications Review, and she has contributed a chapter to Kevin Rockett and John Hill (eds.) Studies in Irish and World Cinema, Vol III (Four Courts Press, 2006). Rashmi is currently completing a book on Indian women filmmakers titled A Woman’s Eye: Films From India (Orient Longman, forthcoming 2008). The book examines women’s film production in India beginning from the 1930s, but with a focus on post 1980s (post New Wave) cinema, theorising postcolonial women’s cinema through the case of Indian cinema.
