CTMP Visiting Scholar from University of Granada

CTMP is hosting Dr Pilar Villar-Argáiz between July-August where she is conducting research on the representation of immigrants in contemporary cinema in Ireland

Pilar Villar-Argáiz is a Senior Lecturer of English in the Department of English Philology at the University of Granada, where she obtained a European Doctorate in Irish Literature. She is the author of the books Eavan Boland's Evolution as an Irish Woman Poet: An Outsider within an Outsider's Culture (The Edwin Mellen Press, 2007) and The Poetry of Eavan Boland: A Postcolonial Reading (Academica Press, 2008). She has published extensively on contemporary Irish poetry and fiction, and the theoretical background and application of feminism, postcolonialism and multiculturality to the study of Irish literature. Her edited collections include Literary Visions of Multicultural Ireland: The Immigrant in Contemporary Irish Literature (Manchester University Press, 2013) and Literature and Theatre in Crosscultural Encounters (Lebanon College Press, USA, 2006). Her research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals of her field: New Hibernia Review, Irish University Review, Nordic Irish Studies, ABEI Journal: Brazilian Journal of Irish Studies, Internationalist Review of Irish Culture, Contemporary Women's Writing (Oxford Journal), Estudios Irlandeses, An Sionnach and Études Irlandaises. In March 2010, she was awarded by her University with the Prize of Outstanding Research in the field of Humanities.
