Research Topic: The Return of Elderly Irish Migrants to Ireland: Multiple Sites, Subjects and Agencies

This practice-based research project explores the collective work of statutory and voluntary organisations that facilitate the return of older Irish migrants from Britain to Ireland. Return is a complex and multifaceted configuration shaped and determined by many different people and agencies both in the UK and Ireland. In its filmic and textual representation the research aims to unravel institutional, cultural, political and social processes enabling the possibility of resettlement in Ireland. In so doing, it attempts to humanise the story of return from the perspective of both committed social actors working in key organisations and older Irish emigrants, documenting their life stories and histories, exploring questions of memory and subjectivity, together with the lived reality of the returned Irish migrant subject.
